Average Salary With an AS Degree

With an Associate of Science (AS), your salary depends on the job you take (and, thus, your major). However, those with an associate’s degree have a median annual wage of $57,590 (BLS.gov). Some jobs available for AS students are paid by the hour instead; it really depends on your major and the company where you work. Keep in mind that if you work full time, you’ll also likely be offered a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health and dental coverage and a retirement plan.

Salaries for Several Jobs for AS Students

Believe it or not, there are actually a number of associate’s degrees that allow you to earn upwards of $50,000 annually – more than some jobs for requiring bachelor’s degrees! Here are some jobs for associate’s degrees with salary figures from BLS.gov:

  • Dental Hygienist – $70,210
  • Radiation Therapist – $77,560
  • Radiologic and MRI Tenchnologists – $55,910
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist – $70,180
  • Nuclear Technician – $69,060

In all of these positions, the average salary is over $55,000 – and many employers will also help pay for tuition if you want to take night classes to earn you bachelor’s degree or even master’s degree in some of these fields while you work, which means you can earn even more money. It’s a win-win situation, because you get more education and a higher salary, while your employer gets an employee with honed skills in their field.
